about the owners

In July 2020, Kurt and Alec made the move from the East Coast to San Diego, bringing along their three rescue pups and a deep passion for landscape design. They specialize in collaborative design with homeowners, ensuring that every project not only meets but exceeds your expectations. By working closely with their skilled design, build, and maintenance teams, they create unique and enduring outdoor spaces that homeowners truly love. With experience across various climates and styles, Drab to Fab is dedicated to achieving your vision and enhancing the enjoyment of your yard.

ABOUT KURT

Kurt has a flair for transforming spaces into stunning visual experiences. His passion for design began in childhood, where he spent time helping his mom in her gardens and cherishing visits to the botanic garden with his grandmother. This early appreciation for beauty and ingenuity naturally led him to a career in fashion merchandising. After gaining valuable experience as an account executive for a multi-line women’s apparel showroom, Kurt ventured out on his own in 2010. Over the next seven years, he grew his Atlanta-based showroom to serve over 1,200 accounts across the Southeast, generating millions in annual sales. However, the relentless travel and the drive for ever-increasing sales eventually led him to reevaluate his path.


In 2017, Kurt sold his successful company to explore new opportunities. This journey of self-discovery brought him to Philadelphia in 2019, where he met his husband and business partner, Alec. When the lockdown began, the couple embraced a new adventure and relocated to California, ready to embark on their next chapter together.

ABOUT ALEC

Alec’s early years were steeped in a love for the outdoors, sparking a lifelong passion for nature. His commitment to sustainability was evident from an early age, whether he was secretly shrinking the grass lawn for garden space or swapping their gas mower for a manual one. Before relocating to San Diego from Philadelphia, Alec organized nationwide waterway cleanups for United By Blue, leaving a significant impact on both participants and the environment. Now, he channels his enthusiasm for nature into Drab to Fab, driving the company’s innovative and sustainable practices.
