At Drab to Fab, we’ve always believed that landscaping is about more than just making outdoor spaces look beautiful. It’s about cultivating a healthier, more connected world, starting right here in San Diego. That’s why we’re proud to announce Drab to Fab has officially become a Certified B Corporation®.

So, What Is a B Corp?
Certified B Corporations (or B Corps) are businesses that meet the highest standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and legal accountability. The certification is issued by B Lab, a nonprofit that evaluates companies on how they treat their workers, customers, and the planet.
We're proud to be leading the charge in our industry. Out of over 725,000 landscaping businesses in the U.S., only a handful are certified B Corps. We’re working to change that, starting right here in San Diego. Some of the most recognizable names in the movement include Patagonia, Dr.Bronner’s, and TOMS. Now, Drab to Fab is joining their ranks, becoming 1 of only 5 landscaping companies in the U.S. to achieve this rigorous certification.

The Journey So Far
Our path to certification has been guided by Maria McDonald, a sustainability expert and founder of Footprint Sustainability, a B Corp consulting agency. Maria and our CSO first worked together at United By Blue, a mission-driven company that removed over 1 million pounds of trash from waterways in 2019. That experience helped shape the ethical foundation of Drab to Fab—and inspired the mission we uphold today.
With Maria’s guidance, we’ve reviewed everything from our hiring practices to our energy usage. And we’re just getting started. Becoming a B Corp means every team member’s voice matters, and every client helps us build a more just and sustainable future.
Proud Member of 1% for the Planet
At Drab to Fab, we believe beautiful outdoor spaces shouldn't come at the expense of the planet. That’s why we’re proud to be a member of 1% for the Planet, joining a global network of businesses committed to putting the environment first. Through this initiative, we donate 1% of our annual revenue—not just profits—to vetted environmental nonprofits creating meaningful change in their communities and ecosystems. Two of our most impactful nature-focused partners are Misool Foundation and Wildlife Warriors.
This commitment goes beyond landscaping—it’s about aligning our business with our values. Whether we’re designing water-wise gardens or maintaining sustainable landscapes in San Diego, we’re also contributing to a broader environmental mission. As one of the few landscaping companies in the country to be both B Corp certified and a 1% for the Planet member, we’re redefining what it means to grow responsibly.
